Why Do Bad Boys Make You Feel So Good?

Everyone has had their experiences with him. The Bad Boy. The strong, quiet type with a voice as smooth and cool as whiskey poured over chocolate ice cream.

For Dr. Patrick Bishop that bad boy was Max Stovall. They met, when at forty-two years old, Patrick decides to get his first tattoo. Max didn't say much at their first meeting, but he didn't have to. Patrick was immediately attracted to him. He sensed the attraction was mutual, even though Max played it cool and pretended otherwise.

Getting close to Max won't be easy. He's in the closet and determined to stay there. Will Patrick walk away, or will he be able to show Max that life is better once you’ve embraced the one you love?

Bad Boys Need Love Too Max is a steamy gay romance full of drama, love, and explicit sex scenes. Max and Patrick’s novella is book three in a complete three book series.

I'm sad to say I was a little disappointed... sigh....
I was really looking forward to Max, and while I'm glad he got his HEA, I felt like it was forced.
So, see... Max is in the closet, really because of his grandma and his mom. His grandma is amazing and I hate that he would be worried about disappointing her, but I get it.... his mom, I wouldn't have given two shiz, about. She's a terrible person.
BUT, that, on top of just not wanting the stigma that comes with being a gay man, he just stayed in the closet..not even his best friends, Gage and Nate knew....

Then, Dr. Bishop comes along, with his daughter who works at the shop with Max, or maybe her girlfriend does and she just gets inked by him, I don't remember.... either way, they're attracted to each other, but I didn't really feel that from Max for a while... Dr. Bishop, or Patrick, he keeps coming on to Max and telling him that he'll be in the closet with him and take things slow, but he doesn't... he's constantly pushing for more and it was a little cringy at times when he jsut assumed something or tried to do something anyway, knowing that MAx wasn't for it.... I mean, I get it... He knew Max wanted it deep down, but... he was just too pushy for me....although he was good for Max and I liked him with Max, I just didn't like that part. It would've pushed me away and it did Max for a second, but then Doc would relent, Max would apologize and it'd be the same thing all over again.
I dunno, I just didn't feel it and I so badly wanted to, because I thought for sure Max was going to be my favorite!

It's a cute story still and like I said, I'm glad they got their HEA, but Gage and Joseph, as dysfunctional and insane as they made be, are still my favorite :)
3 stars from me on this one :( Sorry!

Bad Boys Need Love Too Max edition by Christa Tomlinson Romance eBooks Reviews

I read Nate's story and decided to see what the writer has in store for Max. The story runs parallel to that of Nate.

Max is a successful tattoo artist. He is gay, but firmly in the closet because he fears what his relatively new found family, and especially his grandmother, would say. He does not want to lose them. Therefore he seeks casual contacts out of town.
In comes the father of one of his customers. Patrick is a successful doctor who a while ago had admitted to himself and his then wife, that he prefered men. He had decided to get himself a tattoo, too.
There is an instant attraction between the two men, but Max resists to make it more than one night stand - multiplied several times. He hurts Patrick by pushing him away.
Until something snaps inside Max and he decides to take a chance on love. The only person who reacts negative is his unpleasant mother. She gets as deserved.

Short, but enjoyable.
Max being in the closet. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. He's paranoid about getting caught when he is surrounded by people who clearly couldn't give a flying f- what gender he sleeps with. It's so absolutely ridiculous, particularly considering Gage and Nate, that you're left at a complete loss for words and it ruins your appreciation of the book somewhat... More out of pure frustration than anything else.

If he had some reason to be in the closet, like some deeply seated trauma relating to homophobia (which could still be present for all I know considering I couldn't even finish the book without having to say this) or a social circle or family and friends who were homophobic or prejudiced, you know, like JOSEPH then it would make sense. But this is just ridiculous. If he told his friends he were gay in the first place the only thing they'd feel was shock that he hadn't told them before and what was wrong with him that he hadn't? It's not like he grew up in a conservative environment or one that would normally breed closeted fear anyway (or rather, an environment that would teach you to ignore that fear about others on principal as long as it wasn't too traumatic). But Max's thoughts just keep going on and on about how he needs to keep it secret (from who?????) but Max is supposed to be the level-headed sensible one of the three so that STILL doesn't make sense. It makes continuously less and less sense when you think about Gage and his friendship with Max, where Gage would think hiding your sexuality for no good reason the height of hypocrisy, particularly given Max's official view on discrimination.

Gage is surrounded by gay and bisexual friends and he's worried what they'd think if they found out he was gay....

This is so enormously stupid from such a talented writer I just don't know what to do with it. If she wanted to go the childhood-homophobic-trauma-turns-gay-child-closeted route then the way she set it up and explained Max's thought processes from the beginning of the book just makes no sense.

After the first book which was frankly pretty great and showed a deep understanding of this exact kind of issue with Joseph, and add to that a fairly realistic feel for relationships, and I'm just.... I think I need to go hit my head repeatedly against a wall...

I'm sorry, but you can't have someone terrified of coming out when everyone he loves and cares about openly supports gay men and women, without the entire situation looking ridiculous. Not without some deeper explanation or psychoanalysis, which is never given. You just start to lose sympathy for Max after a while and get more and more annoyed until you lose it and rant about it on the Internet. Excerpt Exhibit A.

2 stars. And one of those stars is out of regard for the author's writing in and of itself.
